about this event
Ask ChatGPT about insurance and you'll get a confident answer. It might be right. It might be out of date. It might be based on the US market. More and more people now research insurance with AI before they speak to anyone. Many then arrive at a broker or comparison site with the wrong idea already fixed in their head. We think we can do better. Join us for a one-day hackathon at NatWest Accelerator Cardiff and help us prove it.
**The challenge** How might we help consumers get accurate, useful and trustworthy insurance information when they use LLMs? This challenge comes out of the Future Finance Research Sprint. The sprint found three problems: the quality of answers depends on how people prompt the LLM; LLMs often lack accurate, current, UK-specific insurance information; and consumers reach insurers and comparison sites with assumptions already shaped by AI. You choose which part to tackle. You might help people ask better questions or check the answers they get. You might help them spot gaps in what they know. You might improve the handover to a broker, insurer or comparison site. There are a few ground rules: work with the AI tools people already use, protect consumer privacy, and stay clear of regulated financial advice. You can read the full Challenge Brief here.
**What you'll make** A working prototype or a strong concept. Either is fine. We want something you believe would make a real difference to consumers.
**Build with Lovable** AI Wales is running this event. Lovable is providing in-kind support and gives every attendee 100 free credits. That includes solo entrants. It's plenty to turn your idea into a working app on the day. We'll share sign-up details at the event.
**Who should come?** You don't need to be a developer or an insurance expert. The best teams mix skills. We want developers, designers, product people, insurance and finance professionals, students and anyone curious about AI. Enter solo or in a team of up to four. You can also form a team on the day.
**The day** 10:00 Doors open; 10:15 Welcome, intros and the challenge; 10:30 Build; 12:30 Lunch; 13:00 Build; 14:30 Show and tell; 15:00 Judging; 15:15 Results and prizes; 15:30 Networking; 16:00 Close. We'll have pizza on hand, so dip in whenever you need fuel.
**Judges and prizes** We're inviting judges from the UK insurance and comparison sector. There are also prizes for the winning teams. We'll announce both soon.
**What to bring** A laptop, a charger and an open mind. We'll provide the problem, the pizza and the Lovable credits.
**Spaces** We only have 40 places, so please sign up early. If you can no longer come, please give up your place so someone else can take it.
Brought to you by Future Finance, FinTech Wales, AI Wales and NatWest Accelerator, with support from Lovable.
**Food** We will provide food (probably pizza!) to suit various diets. If you have a need beyond vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, please let us know at least a day in advance.
