about this event
42 hours. 500 builders. $65K in prizes, plus $1.5M in Mubit credits. Night Shift is an overnight hackathon in London, built around Mubit. Route your LLM calls through Mubit with one base URL change, then turn your corrections into model updates for the recurring tasks your product runs. Every LLM call should count towards owning your intelligence layer. This weekend you build the proof. It's also the night the UK clocks go back, so you get an extra hour :D
Prizes: $65K — one of the largest AI hackathon prize pools London has seen. 1st place: $15,000 cash. 2nd place: $10,000 cash. 3rd place: $5,000 cash. $35,000 in credits: OpenAI API credits and other AI credits. On top of the prize pool: $1.5M in Mubit credits for accepted hackers. Early bird: the first 50 accepted hackers get $50 in OpenAI API credits at check-in.
What you'll build: Mubit sits between your application and its model calls. It generates lightweight model updates from your calls and feedback, so the calls you already make become task-adapted open models. The base models stay fixed, and updates are built for fast refresh as your workload changes.
The brief: build a product that routes its LLM calls through Mubit and turns your corrections into model updates for a recurring task.
Pick a track: Recurring tasks — choose a task your product runs again and again: extraction, triage, support replies, review, routing. Show your corrections becoming model updates. Own your intelligence layer — take a workload you'd normally send to a closed model and move it onto a task-adapted open model. Show quality, cost and latency side by side. Fast refresh — build for a workload that keeps changing: new data, new customers, new domains. Show your model updates keeping pace. The top 3 prizes are judged across all tracks.
Judging: four criteria, weighted equally. Use of Mubit — show a correction turning into a model update in your demo. Usefulness — a real recurring task someone would want handled. Technical execution — it works, and it holds up under questions. Demo — clear, live, and under the time limit.
Schedule. Friday 23 October: 5:00 PM doors open, check-in; 6:00 PM kickoff: Mubit walkthrough, tracks and rules; 7:00 PM dinner and team matching; 7:30 PM hacking starts. Saturday 24 October: all day breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night food; all day office hours with the Mubit team. Sunday 25 October: 2:00 AM clocks go back to 1:00 AM (extra hour); 8:00 AM breakfast; 10:00 AM code freeze, submissions close; 10:30 AM judging round 1 (expo); 12:30 PM finalist demos on stage; 1:30 PM awards; 2:00 PM close. Times may shift slightly. Accepted hackers get the final schedule by email.
Who should apply: software engineers, AI engineers, founders, designers and students who ship. Students are welcome, as long as you're 18+. If you can make an API call, you can use Mubit. You don't need ML experience, and you don't need a team to apply. Come solo and find a team at kickoff.
How to apply: apply on this page. It takes about three minutes. We review on a rolling basis. Applications close Sunday 18 October. Accepted hackers get early access to Mubit and API keys by email before the event.
Good to know. Where: central London. The exact venue is shared with accepted hackers. Teams: 1 to 4 people. Solo hackers welcome. Eligibility: 18+, in person only. At least one team member must be at Sunday's demos to win. Food: all meals, snacks and caffeine are covered for all 42 hours. Sleep: bring a sleeping bag or pillow if you plan to stay overnight; you can also go home and come back. Bring: laptop, charger, photo ID for check-in, toiletries. Travel: we can't reimburse travel. Rules: all project code is written during the event; open-source libraries and your own tooling are fine; every project must route its LLM calls through Mubit. Photos and video: if you're accepted and attend, you agree that we can photograph and film you at the event and post it on Mubit's social channels and elsewhere on social media. Code of conduct: be kind and respectful to everyone. Harassment, discrimination or abusive behaviour of any kind isn't tolerated, and anyone who breaks this may be asked to leave.
Hosts: hosted by the Mubit team. Judges will be announced later.
