about this event

SDC-REBOOT Hackathon: Shaping the Adoption, Governance and Trustworthiness The Hoxton, Edinburgh Edinburgh, Edinburgh Thursday 19 November • 9 AM - 4 PM Overview An in-person hackathon to reboot how we build adoption, governance, and trust into tomorrow’s tech. This in-person hackathon follows the SDC-REBOOT Show and Tell series, which explored how we can demonstrate ‘equivalence of practice’ when providing assurance about ‘Safe Outputs’. Having seen the StatbarnsSDC framework introduced and applied in practice, this event brings together people working in governance, development and federated infrastructure to shape what happens next. Working in groups, we will explore how the framework can be governed, adopted and extended. We will identify quick wins that help organisations get started and benchmark themselves, and develop the case for why doing so is worthwhile. We will also prototype tools that make it easier to collect evidence based on the framework, and collate examples showing what implementing and adopting the framework looks like in practice, to help a wide audience understand what it involves. Ideas generated on the day will be taken forward by the SDC-REBOOT team to help build a clear narrative for the framework at multiple levels. Event Objectives: Design the governance of the StatbarnsSDC framework. Identify quick wins that support adoption and benchmarking. Develop a clear case for why organisations should benchmark themselves against the framework. Prototype tools that speed up the collection of evidence based on the framework. Collate examples that illustrate what implementing and adopting the framework looks like in practice, to help a wide range of audiences understand what is involved. Generate ideas and messages, at multiple levels, for different audiences. Explore how to assure the trustworthiness of the framework itself and of the tools that implement it, for instance through common verification tests. Discuss how the framework could be extended to add value, for example to secondary disclosure checking. Hackathon Themes: Persuasion: How do we persuade people that adopting the framework has value? Ease of adoption: How do we make it easier to adopt and more useful, for example through supporting tools? Trustworthiness: How do we assure the framework and the tools implementing it? Extension: How do we extend the framework and add value, for example secondary disclosure checking? Who Should Attend: Governance leads and those involved in setting or applying policy for Safe Outputs Developers who might onboard the framework into their tools People who might want to set up federations Output checkers and those involved in training human or machine output checkers TRE managers interested in demonstrating ‘equivalence of practice’ Facilitators: Jim Smith, University of the West of England, james.smith@uwe.ac.uk Roberto Villegas-Diaz, University of Liverpool, R.Villegas-Diaz@liverpool.ac.uk Read more Good to know Highlights 7 hours In-person Highlights 7 hours In-person Location The Hoxton, Edinburgh 5-21 Grosvenor Street Edinburgh EH12 5EF How do you want to get there?
